Hemant Soren sworn in as Jharkhand chief minister

JMM executive president Hemant Soren took the oath as the 14th Chief Minister of Jharkhand during a ceremony held in Ranchi on Thursday, following the JMM-led alliance's victory in the assembly polls.

Governor Santosh Gangwar administered the oath to Soren.

The swearing-in ceremony, held at Morabadi Ground in Ranchi, was attended by several prominent leaders, including Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and KC Venugopal. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Tamil Nadu Deputy CM and DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, and Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav were also present.

AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, his wife Sunita Kejriwal, party MP Raghav Chadha, and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann were among the attendees at the event.

This marks the first time in Jharkhand's history that an incumbent government, having completed a full five-year term, has returned to power.

Before the oath ceremony, Hemant Soren greeted people at the venue in Ranchi. He had tendered his resignation as Jharkhand CM to Governor Santosh Gangwar on Sunday, November 24, and staked a claim to form the government at Raj Bhawan.

The JMM-led INDIA bloc secured 56 out of 81 seats in the Jharkhand Assembly. The JMM won 34 seats, while its allies claimed 22. Among these allies, Congress won 16 seats, RJD secured four, and CPI-ML won two.

The BJP-led NDA won only 24 seats, with the BJP claiming 21. Its allies, the AJSU party, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), and JD-U, each won one seat. The Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha also secured a seat, with its chief, Jairam Kumar Mahato, winning in the Dumri constituency.
